The American Tankless Water Heater concept is based on European and Asian Point-of-use and instant-on water heaters. While these heaters have been used in those countries for years, they are not efficient enough to supply an entire home with hot water and are not true tankless water heaters. The problem lies in their limited water flow rate and the absence of a reliable flow switch.
To solve this problem, American Tankless Water Heater teamed up with the engineers in NASA's Technology Transfer Program. NASA used computer chip technology to design a new flow switch that enabled the new electronic tankless water heater to heat water for an entire household. This eliminated the need for conventional heaters, which are bulky, costly, have a limited lifespan, and are limited in the volume of hot water they can produce at one time.
An Endless Hot Water Supply
American Tankless Water Heaters provide an unlimited hot water supply for the entire house, 24 hours a day. Additional points in a home (shower or other water faucets) can be used at the same time with no cold water surprises.
With a American Tankless Water Heater, you no longer need a 40-gallon storage tank. The American Tankless Water Heater heater operates on demand by heating water as it flows through an appliance roughly the size of a large phone book. It only uses energy when the hot water outlet is turned on and shuts down immediately when the outlet is turned off.
This energy-saving mechanism provides potential savings of up to 50% off water heating bills generated by conventional heaters, which keep the stored water hot even when no hot water is being used. Businesses and industries can realize even higher savings. When you think that water heating expenses represent the largest portion of residential utility bills (up to 30%), it's a concept whose time has come.
The Flow Switch
Using NASA designed water flow switch technology, the unit automatically accesses increasing or decreasing electrical wattage (energy consumption) based on the inlet water temperature and demand for hot water at any given time. American Tankless Water Heater' NASA-designed flow switch technology does not use a spring or any other mechanical devices. The American Tankless Water Heater flow switch uses a free-floating weight that varies the rate of electrical contact as demand for hot water increases or decreases. Extensive NASA testing of the flow switch has demonstrated that it works flawlessly. The revolutionary flow switch is unique to the American Tankless Water Heater.
The Heat Exchanger
The heat exchanger is the heart of American Tankless Water Heater. The heat exchanger is made of copper and brass welded together with silver and manufactured by hand. It is designed to hold the standard water heating elements, the same elements found in conventional heaters.
Because of the diameters used and overall design of the heat exchanger, there is very little reduction of water flow passing through the unit. More importantly, almost no heat is lost to the casing or surrounding area. Our heater is rated as 98.5% energy efficient by the California Energy Commission.
Safety
American Tankless Water Heater products carry the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listing mark and the UL"C" listing for Canada. This means that UL has determined that this product has met UL safety requirements based on UL's own published standards.
All American Tankless Water Heaters have manual thermostat controls that enable the user to set the required maximum temperature, thereby eliminating the possibility of scalding that exists with conventional tank water heaters.
All American Tankless Water Heaters are also equipped with thermal manual reset switches.
